Hookah-Freak Freak’s Choice

Freak’s Choice is an interesting flavor that seems to combine a subtle toffee flavor with an ambiguous fruit or melon mix. Overall the flavor is somewhat strange at first, neither dark, nor bright, neither refreshing nor spicy. The best way to describe the flavor may be that it is something like a light, sweet after dinner dessert.

Fusion Chocolate Mint

Chocolate Mint is, in a word, unbelievable. While there are many Chocolate Mint flavors on the market, none has managed to capture my attention like Fusion’s attempt. The flavor, and the aroma, are exactly as the title suggests—chocolate mint. The mint, while distinct, is not overpowering. It won’t clear your sinuses. And the chocolate is a sweet, chocolate cake flavor. Unlike other brands where the chocolate flavor is more like a protein shake, Fusions chocolate is much more realistic.

Ayam Zaman Thousand & One Nights

Nights, I’m told, is actually an adaptation of a traditional Middle Eastern drink. Few in North America will recognize this comparison. The flavor is dark and spicy with a striking sweetness which makes for an interesting, complex and calming flavor. You’ll likely first notice a blend of what seems to be cinnamon and clove, but set atop a black licorice foundation—thought this observation only comes after a careful inspection of the different flavors.

Hookah-Hookah 7 Spice

7 Spice tastes much like you might expect. Spicy. The most dominant flavor is cinnamon, but it is very mild, mixed among other spice flavors such as clove and cardamom. The other spices, whatever they may be, are ambiguous, but no doubt add to the whole experience in ways we can’t confidently nail down. Overall, however, the flavor is dark and spicy, but still light and mild.

After a long conversation with Eric Hoffmann from Tangiers tobacco (also the genius behind the original phunnel bowl), Eric informed me that there would be some new Tangiers flavors on the market in late June. Also with the new batch comes the reintroduction of an old sweet spot; Pineapple.

Dark Peach Mix

Dark Peach creates a delicious tension between the dark anis flavor of Two Apples and the authentic sweet flavor of White Peach. The Two Apples cuts the sweetness of the White Peach, bringing to the table a rich earthy, yet still fruity, experience. Because you’re mixing different brands of tobacco, heat management will have to be taken into consideration…

Social Smoke Chocolate Chill

Chocolate Chill from Social Smoke is a basic chocolate-mint flavor, like the ones produced by Fusion, Tangiers, Nakhla and a handful of other brands. The first thing you’re likely to notice is the intensity of the mint flavor. It is extremely strong. The mint sensation alone is comparable to smoking Al Fakher or Nakhla mint flavor by itself. But, Chocolate Chill also carries a chocolaty taste as well, though compared to the mint it is subtle. The chocolate flavor present isn’t a milk chocolate taste, but more of a cocoa powder or hot-chocolate mix. It is generally dark in flavor, but with a hint of sweetness as well.
