Cut & Composition

The Starbuzz cut can vary. Sweet Melon is between a medium-long and medium-fine cut. This batch was wet, but much stickier than usual, with a medium brown color. Don’t be surprised to find some short stems.

Price

  • 100g – $10.95
  • 250g – $20.95
  • 1kg – $79.95

Starbuzz is widely available in local stores that sell hookah supplies. You may find Starbuzz cheaper in your local store.

The Set-Up

This review was performed after two smoking sessions using a Khalil Mamoon Single Pearl hookah and a Vortex Bowl. Three Coconara coals were used to heat the tobacco, and two layers of standard tin foil, punctured in a star shape, sealed the bowl.

The Experience

Sweet Melon produced a pleasant smoke, though slightly thinner than many Starbuzz smokers may be accustomed to. Though regardless of the smoke, the flavor was full.

The Flavor

Unlike the Sweet Melon flavors produced by Al Fakher and Nakhla which focus on producing a Cantaloupe flavor, Starbuzz Sweet Melon is obviously a blend of melon flavors like Watermelon, Hondey Dew, Cantaloupe and possibly another melon which is difficult to directly identify. Unfortunately however, the sweet Watermelon flavor dramatically overpowers the others and what we’re left with is a very sweet overall flavor, and an over powering but more mild candy/buble-gum Watermelon. It may be possible to tone the sweetness down by adding about 15% mint shisha (such as Al Fakher) to your bowl.

The Insight

For my taste, Starbuzz Sweet Melon is simply too sweet and the intensity of the Watermelon flavor took away from the melon medley which otherwise might have been excellent. It is far from unsmokeable, but certainly not what I would choose if I were looking at my stash and deciding what to smoke with along with a good book.

Who Should Try This Flavor

People who enjoy very sweet flavors may find this enjoyable. Also those who enjoy the candy watermelon taste of Al Fakher Watermelon, but find it too strong, may also take a liking to Starbuzz’s Sweet Melon. If you’re a fan of Nakhla or Al Fakher’s Sweet Melon flavors you may be disappointed with Starbuzz’s efforts here.
