Sahara Smoke was kind enough to send us this tobacco for free to try it out and share our opinions. We always make every effort to review honestly regardless of what means were used to acquire the product. Hookah-Freak is available directly from Sahara Smoke for $22.95 in a 300g jar.

Cut & Composition

Hookah-Freak Rich & Smooth is a long, stringy cut tobacco akin to roll-your-own cigarette tobacco. It is very moist, but more wet and oily than sticky. There are virtually no stems to be found.

The Experience

Rich & Smooth started producing smoke almost immediately. The aroma of caramel and spices quickly filled the room. The flavor was available right away, however, it was more fickle when it came to heat management. Small changes in heat produced big, fairly unpleasant changes in the flavor. However, prompt attention would return things to normal. You’ll have to be careful to watch your heat. This was easier to Sahara Smoke’s own vortex bowl, than in a typical Egyptian bowl or smaller quantity bowls, like the HJ Mini Phunnel. The session lasted about an hour and fifteen minutes before the flavoring element in the tobacco was exhausted.

The Flavor

The precise flavor of Rich & Smooth is hard to nail down. The overall taste is dark and sweet, with what appears to be caramel, or perhaps even a maple syrup taste. There are is also some subtle spice flavors, and notes of a smoky sensation, similar to that produced by the liquid smoke food ingredient.

The Insight

Rich & Smooth was tasty, but the challenge of keeping the flavor consistent was a bit of a turn-off. If you plant to give this flavor a try, I strongly suggest using Sahara Smoke’s Vortex Bowl, as it made things significantly easier for this particular flavor.

Who Should Try This Flavor

Fans of darker flavors, like chocolate or coffee, will probably enjoy this.
