Cut & Composition

Ayam Zaman Fruit Mix is fairly wet,  though not dripping, and slimy in a medium-short cut dark tobacco. There are very few, if any, stems to be found. The tobacco is packed very tightly into packaging. Be cautious when opening to avoid cuts and throwing tobacco everywhere.

The Experience

Ayam Zaman Fruit Mix took some time to get started. In Sahara Smoke’s own Vortex bowl, the tobacco took about ten minutes to really start producing satisfying smoke, though the flavor itself was available after just a couple minutes. Though the tobacco is touted as ‘premiere traditional moassel’, which under that banner would lead consumers to believe the tobacco will deliver a rich head-buzz. In actuality, the tobacco smokes very much like others and the buzz, while noticeable, is nothing to write home about. Consumers should not hold onto this expectation when making their purchase. The flavor and smoke lasted well throughout the session, which ended after about an hour and a half.

The Flavor

From the packaging, Fruit Mix smells almost exactly like black licorice. Different from licorice-like, anis flavors such as Two Apples from Nakhla, Fruit Mix smells almost exactly like black candy licorice. The flavor, however, significantly differs from the smell. Fruit Mix tastes just as the name implies, like an ambiguous combination of different fruit flavors, weighted more toward berry varieties. The overall taste, as far as fruit mix flavors are concerned, is a bit spicier and darker.

The Insight

Not being a big fan of fruit cocktail flavors myself, I was hesitant about this one. But, as with other Ayam Zaman offerings, the results didn’t disappoint.

Who Should Try This Flavor

Fruit Mix is easy to enjoy and most smokers probably will. Though most regular smokers won’t even notice the buzz, new smokers and very occasional smokers probably will. For this reason, Ayam Zaman Fruit Mix may not be a party favorite. Fans of cocktail flavors will probably enjoy this one right away, spice fans might need a little time to warm up to it.
