The Set-Up

Social Smoke Baja Blue was smoked across a number of hookahs, bowl and hose configurations. Most recently, in the interest of review, it was smoked from a clean, 36” brass Egyptian hookah with an HJ Alien mini phunnel bowl and large Nammor hose.

The Experience

Baja Blue was produce smoke from the very first draw. The fullest of flavor came along with the next two or three subsequent draws. The bowl needed two natural coals to sustain the smoking experience, until roughly 40 minutes had passed, at which point a third coal was added. The session lasted a total of about an hour and thirty minutes, during which the smoke and flavor remained fairly consistent.

The Flavor

Baja Blue is closely related to the Starbuzz flavor, Blue Mist. It is a sweet blueberry flavor set atop a light mint sensation. The blueberry taste is a candy caricature of the real thing, but that is not a negative point. The sweetness melds just about perfectly with the mint to create something that isn’t obnoxiously fruity and sweet, but isn’t mild and bland either.

The Insight

Baja Blue has corrected Starbuzz’ s folly. While the Starbuzz flavor is every bit as tasty, Baja Blue is not prone to lose its mint flavor in the way that Starbuzz is. Baja Blue will continue to smoke the same flavor throughout the duration of the bowl. It makes Baja Blue an excellent alternative to the more popular brand on the market.

Who Should Try This Flavor

Baja Blue is a party favorite. Everyone seems to love it. The sweetness is enough to wow you, but not enough to make you sick half way through. And with the addition of the mint, the flavor is very accessible. That been said, it’s probably not a daily smoker. You’ll burn out and get tired of it quickly. I’d recommend people who host gatherings on a somewhat regular basis keep this one on hand. If you love berry flavors, this is definitely worth a try.
