Cut & Composition

Ayam Zaman Thousand & One Nights is extremely wet, dripping, and slimy in a medium-short cut dark tobacco. There are very few, if any, stems to be found.

The Set-Up

Thousand & One Nights was reviewed using various hookahs and bowl arrangements. Most recently it was smoked using a 34” Khalil Mamoon hookah and a HJ Alien Mini Phunnel Bowl

The Experience

Nights packed easily into the bowl, but took about 15 minutes to begin smoking very well. However the flavor began after just a few minutes. Once the smoke caught up, it was adequately thick. The smoking session lasted about an hour and a half, though the flavor and smoke began to fade after about an hour. Though even after that, it was pleasant and flavorful. This tobacco is also strikingly resilient to heat. It never once became harsh and needed only minimal attention to stay smooth and enjoyable.

The Flavor

Nights, I’m told, is actually an adaptation of a traditional Middle Eastern drink. Few in North America will recognize this comparison. The flavor is dark and spicy with a striking sweetness which makes for an interesting, complex and calming flavor. You’ll likely first notice a blend of what seems to be cinnamon and clove, but set atop a black licorice foundation—thought this observation only comes after a careful inspection of the different flavors.

The Insight

So far, everyone who has smoked this flavor has been not only impressed but brimming with glowing words. I have little doubt that this flavor will become a regular within my collection, especially since it is only available in 50g and 500g quantities and let’s face it, I’m not going to buy a half a dozen little 50g pucks.

Who Should Try This Flavor

The sweetness seems to help bridge the gap between those with an affinity for spicy flavors and those who enjoy sweetness. The spicy fans will probably love it, the sweet fans will probably find this one accessible. I feel pretty comfortable recommending that just about anyone could give it shot and most will probably find it enjoyable. If you absolutely hate spice or black licorice flavors you may be an exception to this recommendation.
