Full Disclosure

Sahara Smoke was kind enough to send us this tobacco for free to try it out and share our opinions. We always make every effort to review honestly regardless of what means were used to acquire the product. Ayam Zaman is available directly from Sahara Smoke for $4.95 in a 50g puck.

Cut & Composition

Ayam Zaman Mint is extremely wet, dripping, and slimy in a medium-short cut dark tobacco. There are very few, if any, stems to be found.

Price & Quantities Available

  • 50g – $4.95
  • 500g – $39.95

The Set-Up

Mint was reviewed using a Al Fakher Large Solid hookah and a Vortex bowl.

The Experience

First of all, Ayam Zaman took about 15 minutes to actually open the container. The small, metal, puck shaped container is sealed extremely tight and it isn’t clear how to open it. Eventually, the lid popped off, although it was a miracle that the tobacco didn’t go flying across the room. The tobacco was packed very densely in the container which made it challenging to mix up in the tin. Once the tobacco was mixed, it was much like any other tobacco. It began smoking in about five minutes with the flavor available almost immediately. The smoke was surprisingly dense and lasted about an hour and a half. The flavor and smoke faded right about the same time.

The Flavor

Ayam Zaman is a mild, sweet spearmint flavor with just the slightest hint of something spicy. Most people probably won’t even notice. Besides that, the flavor is very basic, but not uninteresting.

The Insight

I was extremely impressed with Ayam Zaman Mint. I’m generally not the kind of person who likes to smoke mint flavors alone. But Mint is a superb blend of sweet and spearmint while remaining subtle and mild. It was very easy to smoke. My only objection is that I want to more than 50g, but I’m not so sure I want 500g either.

Who Should Try This Flavor

I expect this flavor will find fairly widespread appeal with most smokers, since there isn’t anything too extreme about it. However, it is a spearmint flavor and some people simply aren’t going to like it. However, if you enjoy or are indifferent to mint flavors, you’ll probably be pleasantly surprised by this one.
