Sahara Smoke was kind enough to send us this tobacco for free to try it out and share our opinions. We always make every effort to review honestly regardless of what means were used to acquire the product. Hookah-Hookah Dragon Fruit is available directly from Sahara Smoke for $14.95 in a 250g jar.

Cut & Composition

Hookah-Hookah Dragon Fruit is a long stringy cut. Something much like roll-your-own cigarette tobacco. There are no stems to be found. The tobacco is wet, but more oily than other brands. It will leave your fingers wet but not slimy.

The Set-Up

Hookah-Hookah Dragon Fruit was smoked on various hookah configurations. For the purpose of review, Dragon Fruit was smoked using a 36” Khalil Mamoon hookah, with an HJ Alien mini phunnel bowl and a large Nammor hose.

The Experience

Dragon Fruit wasted no time in getting started. Both flavor and smoke were available from the very first pull and within 5 minutes the smoke was thick and the flavor rich. While Hookah-Hookah tobacco is generally resilient to heat and will ignore subtle changes in temperature, Dragon Fruit’s flavor will change a bit with too much heat. Reducing the heat will restore the flavor. The session used a total of three Coconara coals, two in the beginning, with a third added after about 50 minutes. The smoke and flavor lasted about an hour and twenty minutes and generally required little attention.

The Flavor

Dragon Fruit is a sweet blend of berries and melon. Though the combination isn’t obvious at first, rather the first sensation is bright with a delicious ambiguous berry sweetness, and just a hint of something tangy. When exhaling through the nose as well, those who have a very acute sense of smell will notice a vague hint of something chemical. For almost everyone else, it will go undetected.

The Insight

While Dragon Fruit is very tasty, the sweet spot for the smoke seems to be just a little hotter than the tobacco can handle. Once you achieve huge clouds, the flavor will have changed slightly and won’t be as pleasant. If you back the heat off to restore the flavor, the smoke will be sufficient, but isn’t going to turn any heads. This can be a bit frustrating. But for those of us who aren’t in it solely for the clouds, Dragon Fruit is a winner.

Who Should Try This Flavor

Sweet fans, you’re going to love this one. It’s blend is sweet and rich, but not sickly. Adding a hint of mint is a great addition too. Dragon Fruit is more accessible that most sweet flavors, so spice and floral fans may enjoy it as well, though I suggest they grab a 50g pack before really diving in.
