Cut & Composition:

Nakhla Mandarin Orange is a medium long cut tobacco, fairly dry compared to other brands, and full of big huge stems you’ll want to pick out. Although it’s not juicy, it is sticky and oily. Upon opening the box, you may think there is something wrong. Don’t fret, everything is fine.

Price and Quantities Available:

  • 50g box – $2.49
  • 250g box – $9.95
  • 250g jar – $11.95
  • 1kg can – $39.95

Nakhla tobacco is widely available in local stores that sell hookah supplies. You may find Nakhla tobacco cheaper in your local store, check to see what is available nearby.

The Set-Up

Nakhla Mandarin Orange has been smoked on many hookahs, using many bowls. Most recently, it was smoked using an Al Fakher Large Solid and a Vortex bowl from Sahara Smoke.

The Experience

Mandarin Orange began smoking very quickly, within about four or five pulls. The smoke was adequately dense and the flavor rich  from the get go. With little fussing over the coals, Mandarin Orange smoked for about an hour and fifteen minutes before the smoke began to die down, though the flavor staid fairly strong in spite of the smoke’s dwindling density.

The Flavor

Nakhla Mandarin Orange is a more realistic orange flavor than many other brands. It does indeed taste very much like a Clementine or Orange Cutie. It’s sweet, but not overpowering and only very slightly tart. As is typical for Nakhla tobacco, the natural tobacco flavor does shine through, though it’s a soft undertone in this case.

The Insight

Nakhla Mandarin Orange is an excellent alternative to the candy orange flavors of Starbuzz and Al Fakher. Because the intensity is turned down some, I find it easy for this orange flavor to make its way into regular rotation. It’s also often a party favorite because the taste is surprisingly realistic.

Who Should Try This Flavour

Citrus lovers will feel at home with this flavor. However, it should be noted, that as Nakhla is not a washed tobacco brand, it can produce a pretty intense head-buzz in the lungs of a novice smoker. If it’s your first time, you might want to try some of the washed brands such as Al Fakher or Starbuzz. If you think you’re ready to step up to something a little more intense, here’s a great opportunity.
