Cut & Composition

Social Smoke Dulce De Leche is moist, but not dripping. There’s a good bit of slimy juices in the which will leave your fingers ready for a bath. The cut is medium with a handful of moderately sized stems mixed amongst the tobacco. Most of the stems shouldn’t cause problems, but you may find that you have to pick some of them.

The Set-Up

Social Smoke Dulce De Leche was reviewed after a several sessions using various hookahs and bowls. Most recently it was smoked from an Al Fakher Large Solid with a Vortex bowl.

The Experience

Dulce De Leche flavor showed up almost instantly after applying the coals. The smoke followed within three to four pulls and the flavor became much thicker. The bowl lasted about an hour and a half, though the flavor began to dull around an hour and fifteen minutes.

The Flavor

Dulce De Leche is a sweet cream flavor. Neither fruit, nor obviously spice and certainly not floral. The most obvious sensation is sweet. It’s very sweet. But the actual flavor is delicate. It’s difficult to place exactly what it tastes like (made especially difficult since I’ve never had the drink for which this tobacco was named). There are some darker undertones, perhaps caramel, while the more obvious flavor is light and creamy.

The Insight

I’ve found Dulce De Leche to be an excellent tobacco for the morning time. It’s warming and sweet and goes great with a cup of coffee or tea. As I mentioned, the flavor—barring the sweetness—is delicate. With too much heat, it’s fairly easy to produce a burnt taste from which you won’t be salvaging the rest of the bowl.

Who Should Try This Flavor

I imagine that Dulce De Leche will be hit or miss with most people. Many will probably love it, while many will recoil at the sensation. Since the flavor defies any obvious allegiance to any of the major flavor genres it’s hard to anticipate who might like this flavor. Though I expect the most likely candidates are spice flavor lovers, and people who like very sweet.
