Cut & Composition

Nakhla Sweet Melon is sticky, but not particularly wet. The cut is medium to fine and you can expect to find at least some good sized stems mixed among the tobacco which you will probably want to throw away as you find them.

Price & Quantities Available

  • 250g – $9.95
  • 1kg – $39.95

Nakhla tobacco is widely available in local stores and the prices can greatly vary. You may check to see if it is available locally before choosing to buy online.

The Set-Up

This review was performed after countless smoking sessions using various hookahs and bowl styles. It was most recently smoked using a Khalil Mamoon Pearl hookah and a standard Egyptian bowl. This review was performed after countless smoking sessions.

The Experience

Nakhla brand tobacco is extremely heat resistant, though still begins smoking within 1 – 3 minutes with adequate heat. The smoke does not become harsh easily compared to other brands. While thick, dense clouds can be achieved with Nakhla Sweet Melon, most will experience adequate clouds, but nothing that’s going to ‘wow’ anyone. The Sweet Melon flavor will come along with the smoke and generally last the entire session—about an hour to and hour and a half with proper packing and heat management

The Flavor

Nakhla Sweet Melon is a sweet, candy cantaloupe flavor, not a melon blend like the Sweet Melon available from Starbuzz. The aroma and the taste match almost perfectly. The flavor is sweet, but not particularly ‘refreshing’ like the real fruit. The flavor has more of a warming sensation to it. If that’s not your thing, you can counteract this by adding just a hint of Nakhla Mint flavor tobacco. You may find subtle undertones of honey, but I mean very subtle. Sweet Melon is one of the sweeter flavors from Nakhla. Some find it almost sickly sweet, but the majority find that it is a good balance. As with most Nakhla flavors, the natural tobacco taste is present, but well hidden in this flavor.

The Insight

I am a big fan of Nakhla Sweet Melon. I find the subtle presence of natural tobacco taste a welcome addition to the cantaloupe flavor. Nakhla tobacco is a bit more intense than most other brands and can make your head swim if you smoke too much to fast. For me, this keeps it from being a daily flavor, but I more than enjoy changing things up with Sweet Melon. I also find that it’s usually a crowd pleaser, barring a few who find it too sweet. And, since the tobacco stands up to heat very well, I don’t need to babysit the hookah when friends are around.

Who Should Try This Flavor

Sweet Melon will find widespread appeal among smokers of most experience levels. But for some who simply can’t stand the taste of natural tobacco, they’ll probably want to stay away from this one. People who enjoy the sweet fruit flavors will feel right at home, and those who enjoy a good cigar, probably won’t be gagging on this stuff either.
